Near Saveh, the city of Tafresh is located northwest of Farahan.
Splendid traditional tafresh in dozar format consisting of a large, richly worked dark blue medallion highlighted by a plain coral red background (kafzadé). The spandrels match perfectly with the central medallion. The main border, on a light background, is decorated with flowers and is surrounded by small "hérati" or "samovari"** borders. We notice boteh*** on the medallion and the spandrels.
Note: a small darker coloration around a boteh (see photo).
*Kurk wool: fine wool taken from the necks of lambs.
**Herati border (or samovari): this pattern is composed of small flowers represented on the borders that surround the carpet. It is found on the majority of Iranian carpets.
***Boteh: Ancient pattern with different meanings. It can represent the transformation of Zoroaster into a cypress, symbol of eternity, but also into a drop of water, a palm, a tree. The term boteh means "flowering bush" in Persian. There is a similarity with yin and yang.
