"Kifwebe Dance Mask - Songye Of Congo"
Spectacular large Kifwébé dance mask from the Songyé ethnic group of Congo Soft wood colored in places reddish, black and white very beautiful patina of use on the inside height 70cm, maximum width 25cm The highly symbolic forms of this mask are interpreted in the Songyé cosmogomy as well as the esoteric signs associated with it This mask is characterized by a very large crest, very large eyes and a prominent mouth According to François Neyt author of numerous books including "Kifwébé, a century of Songyé masks" it would be a male mask of the Ndoshi Kalebwe type linked to magic and even more to witchcraft (it's not too seller to say that but hey I'll put it anyway it's written on page 90 of the book). There is a great power emanating from these masks, quite impressive. I would like to point out an indigenous restoration on the crest and a crack on the top of the skull, otherwise in good condition, careful and free shipping worldwide.
