Jaroslav Šetelík, baptized Jaroslav Jan (10 August 1881 Tábor – 12 December 1955 Prague), was a Czech academic and landscape painter. Jaroslav Šetelík began exhibiting regularly even before he studied at the Prague Academy. In 1900, he presented his watercolours at the Christmas exhibition of the Artists' Discussions, and a year later, four pastels on the theme of the seasons. From 1901 he exhibited with the Krasoumná jednotá and in 1906 with the Jednotá umělců výtvarných at the Topič salon. In 1907 he was represented at the Modern Gallery of the Kingdom of Bohemia in Prague with the charcoal drawing Forest. After his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts, he went on trips across Europe, for example, from 1905 he stayed in Paris and Italy, and in 1911-1912 again in Italy.[3] In the meantime, in April 1907, he married[4] Ludmila Bíla[5] and a year later their son Dimitrij Jan was born, who later became a successful academic painter and restorer. At least since 1911, Šetelík's Prague motifs on postcards were published repeatedly in numerous series, which ensured the author's popularity among the general public. The postcards were published mainly by the publishing houses FJ Jedlička, Václav Krátkoruký and Minerva. In early 1915, he joined the artillery in Olomouc and took part in the fighting on the Eastern Front during the First World War.[6]
