Charming patinated terracotta statue of the most popular Saint of Lorraine, Saint Nicholas, in his bishop's attire. He blesses the children and holds the episcopal crozier in his left hand. He is celebrated throughout Lorraine on December 6. Saint Nicholas, bishop of Myra in Turkey, is recognized by the church for having performed many miracles. Legend has it that he saved three small children from a butcher's salting tub, hence the representation of these children at the foot of the Saint in the salting tub.
