"Painting By Victor Cuguen “chapel In Brittany”"
Oil on canvas glued on original cardboard by Victor Cuguen representing a chapel in Brittany. Signed lower right. Knife painting characteristic of Cuguen's work. Son of a railway worker, he painted his native region between Pontorson, Mont Saint Michel, from Normandy to Brittany. He then settled in Toulon where he became a drawing teacher and member of the Society of Friends of the Arts. He exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants from 1922 to 1940 and at the Salons des Artistes Normands and Salons des Artistes Français from 1925 as well as in various Parisian and provincial galleries. He became known for his exclusive use of the palette knife. His works are kept at the Museum of Fine Arts in Saint-Lô.
