"Portrait Of A Thoroughbred. English School, 19th Century "
Elegant portrait of a thoroughbred horse, made in oil on canvas, around the middle of the 19th century. We know the importance of equestrian life in English high society. It was then customary to have portraits of champions made by the best hands. Our painting is unfortunately not signed. We do not know the name of this magnificent animal, but we are charmed by its elegance, its smoked chestnut coat, and its reflections in the sun. It is presented against a background of a plain landscape, against a backdrop of a grove. Note the cracking of the paint, typical of works from the first half of the 19th century. In very good original condition, on its frame, which bears traces of old collection stamps. Light modern frame.
