Tea box, natsume, for the macha tea of the tea ceremony. In black lacquered wood with chrysanthemum and wave decorations in gold makie lacquer on a kirigane background (cut gold leaves) imitating shagreen visually and also to the touch. The interior, the underside of the box and the lid are in gold-spangled nashiji lacquer and with plant decorations in gold makie lacquer.
