Object description :

"Rare Kashan Floral Carpet With Architectural Decoration, 136 X 208 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool & Silk, 19th Century"
Rare antique floral Kashan collection with Persian architecture decoration.
Hand-knotted in wool and silk from the mid-19th century under the Kadjar dynasty, with architecture and flower decoration.
It measures 136 cm wide by 208 cm long.
The central motif with three juxtaposed medallions, pale blue, curry and midnight blue, decorated with two drop pendants, represents a large stylized flower in bloom.
It is surrounded by many other flowers; peonies, almond blossoms, roses and interlacing covering the brick-colored field.
The border, the main band composed of polylobed cartouches with palace decorations, alternating with bouquets of roses and peonies.
Note: # the quality of the interior and exterior braids along the border, present bouquets on an ivory background.
# the difference in color bath, brick and red making up the field.
The midnight blue spandrels are adorned with flowers and create a magnificent contrast with the brick color of the field.
This entire piece is in very good collection condition, the velvet is clean, the edges are impeccable, the fringes are short.
The general condition is very good, there is no reduction in pile, the fine wool and silk used are of the highest quality.
The colors are fresh without loss of color and not sunned.
Superb collection rugs, the Kashan are particularly rare with this type of decoration, which makes them a real museum piece.
These rugs with neat, architectural decoration are often present in works developing the theme of the Persian rug by presenting only museum pieces. Kashan (Kachan, Keshan): large city in the center of Iran.
At the time of the Persian Renaissance, Kashan was the center of production of carpets of legendary splendor.
Finely woven carpets, of great richness of composition, were knotted by the royal factory of Shah Abbas.
They have become the centerpieces of museums and private collections.
Craftsmanship was interrupted in Kashan between the invasion of the Afghans (1722) and the end of the 19th century.
The revival of carpet production began with carpets that are distinguished by the superior quality of the wool giving an extremely velvety appearance. These examples are called Kashan Motashemi, named after the most famous master weaver of the end of the 19th century.
The decorations are varied and offer a meticulous craftsmanship:
hunting scenes, subjects with figures inspired by Persian mythology, birds in a plant decoration, trees of life.
Thanks to the superior quality of the wool, their tight knotting, the beauty of their natural colors and their designs, the Kashan took their place among the best Persian carpets.
A beautiful artifact of 19th century Persian culture, knotted under the Kadjar dynasty.
## The Qajar dynasty or Qajars: (Qājār, Qajar, Qajar, Persian: قاجار) is a Turkmen dynasty that reigned over Iran from 1786 to 1925.
