Large oil on canvas from the end of the 18th century evoking the legend of Oceanos (Ocean) and Thetys.
More precisely, the moment when Thetys presents to Oceanos a part of the fruit of their love, the future River Gods.
Like this work, Oceanos is often represented as an old man, an oar in his hand and sitting next to a fountain continually pouring the oceans, seas and rivers.
Let us recall that before being lovers, Oceanos and Thetys are brother and sister, children of Ouranos and Gaia.
Oceanos, the eldest of the Titans and brother of Cronos fell in love with his sister Thetys, the youngest of the Titanides.
Together, they had 3000 sons: the River Gods, as well as 3000 daughters, the Oceanides.
