Origin of the Mathevon and Bouvard fabric
The Mathevon and Bouvard house was a textile manufacturer specializing in luxury furnishing fabrics, active in France in the 19th century. It was based in Lyon, which was then the world center of silk. The fabrics produced by this manufacturer were often intended for the sumptuous decorations of palaces and aristocratic residences. Lyon, from the Renaissance and even more so in the 18th and 19th centuries, was renowned for its refined silks. Many Lyon manufacturers collaborated with great decorators and cabinetmakers to provide sumptuous fabrics to the court of France and the European aristocracy.
