Large pewter PITCHER with shoulder, plinth foot, straight heel cup and molded S-shaped thumb.
Control mark: crowned C / MANTE / 17(--).
Mark of Pierre DELAVIGNE received as master in Mantes in 1715: crowned hammer DPLP
Height: 26.8 cm.
MANTES, First half of the 18th century.

Very good condition
This master settled in Pontoise from 1717 to 1727, when he returned to Mantes. On his master's mark, the second P (initial of Pontoise) attests that he did not immediately change the mark he used during his activity in Pontoise.
Reading the incomplete control mark therefore does not allow us to specify the dating of this pitcher made between 1715 and 1717 or after 1727. These pitchers, often the central theme of pewter collections, were the wine measures of the Ancien
Régime.
