"Kimono For The Evening In Taffeta Embroidered With Chinoiserie - France Circa 1930"
Circa 1920 -1930 France Kimono for evening or indoor use in black taffeta embroidered with a chinoiserie and Japonism decoration, dating from the 1920s. Probably work from Asia for export to the West as famous Parisian houses such as Madame Babani did. Loose cut with long Kimono sleeves and scarlet red satin collar matching the lining, with reminder on the sleeves and bottom of the coat. Two interior closing ties allowing the crossing closed by a large ball button. The decoration mixes rows of fish in winks to Taoism, as well as branches of flowering cherry trees loaded with birds and temples in reference to Japonism in fashion during the Art Deco period. Rare tiny discreet halos on the bottom of the sleeves but no holes, clean kimono. Stable and non-fuzzy silk. The Asian embroidery work is remarkable. Good general condition of color and conservation. Dimensions: Mannequin on size 40 France. Height 122 cm, sleeves 30 cm, sleeve height 49 cm, chest 99 cm, width at bottom of coat 144 cm.
