Mária Medvecká (September 11, 1914 in Tvrdošín – April 23, 1987 in Bratislava) was a Slovak painter, representative of Slovak Realist Impressionism. She came from the noble family of Medveczky de Medvedzieho and Malý Bysterc (Medveczky de Medveczei és Kis Bisterczei). After graduating from high school in Košice, she studied at the Pedagogical Academy in Bratislava. She worked as a teacher in Zubrohlava, Tvrdošín, Jablonka and Námestov. After the war, she continued her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and in Prague with Professor Ján Želibský. She became a painter of her native Orava and its inhabitants. From the 1950s onwards, she also devoted herself to the committed themes of socialist realism, images of industrialization and the construction of a socialist society. In 1974, she was awarded the title of National Artist.
