Interesting vase with 4 children's heads by Lucas Madrassi.TrainingÉcole des beaux-arts de ParisMasterPierre-Jules Cavelier, Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse.Luca Madrassi is an Italian sculptor naturalized French born June 8, 1848 in Tricesimo and died April 6, 1919 in Paris.Luca Madrassi began his artistic studies in Rome before studying at the École des beaux-arts de Paris in the studio of Pierre-Jules Cavelier, then that of Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse.Madrassi was a practitioner for Carrier-Belleuse, then intermittently between 1876 and 1880 for Gustave Doré2. He probably also practiced for Antoine Bourdelle3.He married Marie Yvonne Corbier, with whom he had Lucien Ludovic Madrassi (1881-1956), who would become a painter and officer of the Legion of Honor4. He exhibited at the Salon des artistes français in Paris from 1874 with his plaster group Le Premier aveu3. He received honourable mentions in 1881, 1882, 1883 and 1885, as well as a third-class medal in 1896 for his marble group Noël. His art, influenced by Clodion and Carrier-Belleuse, did not earn him any state commissions, but was successful with a private clientele3. He obtained French nationality and became a member of the Société des artistes français in 1890. He also exhibited at the Salon de la Société nationale des beaux-arts in 1896. His works were mainly busts, statuettes and allegorical subjects. He collaborated with the Boulenger et Cie earthenware factory in Choisy-le-Roi, for which he provided models for statuettes, vases and art objects, as well as a monumental earthenware fountain with a neo-rocaille aesthetic presented at the 1900 Universal Exhibition in
