Ferenc Szikszay (Hungarian, 1871 – 1908) "Sculptor Contemplating His Work" Oil on canvas 78 x 111 cm Signed lower left _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Szikszay studied at the Académie Julian in Paris, where he also painted landscapes and figurative compositions. His paintings with French themes based on atmospheric elements were exhibited several times at the National Salon in Paris. He published his works with his own illustrations. Some of his works are in the Hungarian National Gallery. Szikszay received recognition for his talent in France. A medallist at the 1900 World's Fair, received every year at the Salon of the Société Nationale de Paris, and a member of the Salon d'Automne, he has achieved, despite his youth, an enviable position, which the future can only make even better.
