The model of the Grazing Goat dates from 1844. It was exhibited at the Salon the following year, with a Norman Bull, a Cow and her calf, a Sheep with baby, a Billy Goat and a Spanish Greyhound.
Mêne was then a leading artist, recognized for the finesse of his work. The chiseling of this bronze thus reveals a profusion of details.
