"Woman In A Hat, A Mask In Her Hand"
This seated young woman, protected by a long fur coat and whose hair is covered by an elegant toque, holds a carnival mask in her hands. The face is reminiscent of the miniature portrait attributed to Jean-Baptiste Le Prince (1734-1781) and put up for sale by the Artcurial Company on 27.09.2023. The coat and the toque are neat and Diderot, who supported the painter from his first Salon, considered that the main merit of the artist "is that of dressing well". Jean-Baptiste Le Prince stayed in Russia between 1756 and 1763, bringing back from his trip a large number of drawings that he used when he presented himself at the Royal Academy and then fed the genre paintings and Russian landscapes for which he became famous. Details: - Red chalk. - Sold framed. - Has an old label on the back (from the framer?).
