Large gouache on paper mounted on wood, under its 18th century glass, in a gilded Directoire frame.
The scene, rich in details, in colors and gilding, probably represents the criminal follies of Emperor Nero in his palace.
His poisoned guests lie on the ground in a mess of objects. Rich scene, abundant, details of marbles, Palace, animals, peristyle, far away, it is impressive.
No signature or visible mark. Look carefully at our photos....
Large size: 62 cm x 48 cm. Gouache was mounted on a panel, which over time, has opened a little in 3 parts, revealing some longitudinal cracks, (red arrows), very tight, they disappear.
