Very rare small circular pewter TRAY with a narrow wing fitted with an external peripheral reinforcing rod.
Unidentified master's mark: Christ on the cross / AD
Inscription engraved in Roman numerals and letters in post-Gothic graphics: Ml DX P BRE (September 1510?).
Diameter: 18.2 cm.
FRANCE, 15/16th century
Excavated piece with a local tear in the wing, oxidation and slight calcareous concretions.
Ceramics resist the centuries, metals on the other hand, if they are not remelted, oxidize and finally end up disappearing all the more quickly if they are in a saline or acidic environment.
Pewter objects prior to the 17th century are extremely rare.
