Georges-Alexandre Chicotot, born in Paris on January 31, 1855 and died in Gurcy-le-Châtel on April 7, 1937, is a French painter, doctor and radiologist who marked the beginning of the 20th century with his pictorial productions representing innovative medical procedures. This oil on canvas is signed, titled "souvenir d'un beau jour" and is dated lower left. Dimensions including frame: 49 x 41 centimeters Biography: A student of Hanoteau, J. Blanc and Hébert, Paul Richer, Georges Chicotot studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1880, he made his debut at the Salon with Le Verger and Portrait de femme. Each year he exhibited genre scenes there. The first ones had a religious and sentimental character. Then he borrowed his subjects from History. Finally, from 1904 onwards, he specialized in the representation of scenes in the medical field. In 1889, he received a 3rd class medal at the Salon des artistes français as well as an honorable mention and a bronze medal at the Universal Exhibition. He was named an Officer of the Legion of Honor in 1922. From 1884 to 1899, he was an external at the Paris hospitals (now Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris). On January 1, 1907, he became a radiotherapy preparer at the Broca hospital, then a preparer at the Saint-Louis hospital on February 1, 1910.
