Julius Eduard Mařák (1832 Litomyšl – 1899 Smíchov) was a Czech painter, landscape painter, draughtsman and graphic artist of the second half of the 19th century. In 1882 he received a commission to decorate the National Theatre and in 1887 he moved to Prague, having been offered a position as a professor at the Prague Academy in the landscape painting workshop.[8] He headed the landscape school for twelve years. Among his students were: Antonín Slavíček, Václav Březina, František Kaván, Max Švabinský, Otakar Lebeda, Alois Kalvoda, Stanislav Lolek, Jaroslav Panuška, Ota Bubeníček or Mařák's wife Ida and his daughter Josefina. Their works are collectively called "Mařák School of Painting
