Very rare baluster PITCHER in pewter with pedestal, straight oblique cup and lid with acorn thumb.
Hallmark of Jean-Louis BELLAN active from 1808: crowned C / LB / half-vol. (The central C means Common pewter)
Height: 27.1 cm.
TOULOUSE, Early 19th century
Good condition, an old consolidation of the upper attachment of the handle and the tongue of the lid are however reported.
In Toulouse, the pitchers almost always have a raised lid with a flat roof, a few, very rare, are fitted with flat lids as is the case here. The profile of the body of the pitcher remains the same.
In general, all these pitchers from the various regions of France were the wine measures of the Ancien Régime
Bibliography: "Potiers d'étain de l'Ancien Languedoc et du Roussillon" by René Richard who reproduces this hallmark
