Pastel made in the Antilles by Germaine Foury, of a young West Indian woman, in traditional clothing. Germaine Foury (1902-1891) is the wife of André Gianelli, and with him forms a couple of traveling painters in the 1930s. They collaborate on the creation of frescoes in official buildings, notably in Tannanarive in Madagascar. They make a trip to the Antilles. It is during this trip that this pastel is made.
