"François Verdier (1651-1730), Soldiers And Pilgrims, Ink Wash, Stamp Carlo Lucido Collection"
Very beautiful sheet by François VERDIER (1651-1730) representing a scene with soldiers and pilgrims done in black ink and gray wash. A student of Charles LEBRUN, he won first prize in drawing at the Royal Academy and was a professor there in 1684. He worked with his master at Versailles, at Trianon and at the Galerie d'Apollon at the Louvre as well as for several Parisian churches. He gives us here a fine example of his talent through this drawing, certainly a detail of a more important religious composition.
Wonderfully framed with its passe and its more recent gilded frame, it bears a collection stamp at the bottom left: that of Carlo Lucido (Lugt: 3269). The whole is very decorative!
