"Wine Tasting Cup. Silver. Probably Navarre, Spain, Circa 1700. "
Wine tasting cup. Silver. Probably Navarre, Spain, circa 1700. Wine tasting glass with a coloured silver base. The base is decorated with smooth mouldings and the upper part has a raised and scalloped central piece, with vegetal motifs in bands alternating with oval mirrors all around, followed by a recess and, towards the outside, a band with semicircular arches with teardrops and simple elements in the upper part, all closed by a chain of pearls. Stylistically, they are very reminiscent of Miguel de Amasa's 1697 design for his master's examination in goldsmithing. Also to be compared with the two salvos that follow this drawing and that are preserved in the Museum of Works of the Church of San Saturnino in Pamplona (Navarra, Spain), considered to be the work of Miguel de Amasa, made in Pamplona and dated 1697 (they bear a hallmark, the double P crowned with a chain border that was used in the goldsmithing of Pamplona between 1652 and the first quarter of the 18th century). Weight: 294 grams. - Size: 10x19x4.5 cm
