French School Late 19th Century : "holy Martyr On The Strike"

French school circa 1890: "Saint martyr on the shore", oil on paper or on canvas mounted on canvas 33 X 41 cm, presented in a sober but elegant baguette with very beautiful gilding 38 X 45 cm. Representations of drowned Saints are not common and apart from Saint Florian the Roman and Saint John Nepomuk the Czech, I do not know of any others... Finally, it may not be a drowned woman, but a martyr Saint who was miraculously transported by boat from Corsica to Monaco: Saint Devota who became the patron saint of the principality... I do not know who the author is: the format is that of the studies for the Prix de Rome competition, but I did not find it in the imposed subjects, which could have helped me by the list of logists of the year. There is however a "je ne sais quoi", perhaps in the attitudes of the characters or in the rich palette mixing pink with turquoise and almond green with browns that reminds me of Puvis de Chavannes...
