"Regulator Signed Robin Monthly Calendar"
Empire style regulator clock in flamed mahogany veneer with monthly date in a Restoration period portico case in mahogany and mercury-gilded bronze. The enameled and signed annular dial “ROBIN H. of the KING & MADAME, YEAR 1820”. The movement of this clock is of quality, presenting a technical classicism of a very good level. Very beautiful capitals and frieze with palmettes in gilded bronze. The watchmaker Jean-Joseph Robin (1781-1858) was a clockmaker, son of the famous watchmaker Robert Robin (1742-1799), a major figure in French watchmaking during the reign of Louis XVI. Jean-Joseph Robin enjoyed the same fame as his father and received a 2nd class silver medal at the exhibition of French industrial products in 1819. This regulator presents a monthly calendar over 31 days and uses a Graham escapement with a knife suspension, an invention from the very end of the 18th century allowing a heavy balance to be suspended and which avoids any friction, and is equipped with a balance with Grid compensation from Harisson. Under the effect of cold or heat, the balance rod shortens or lengthens.
Movement cleaned and restored to working order. Restoration report available.
