"Bargueño - The Woodcutter's Cabinet - C. 1900"
Drawing heavily on Flemish and German treasure cabinets from the 16th and 17th centuries, this beautiful bargueño is dedicated to the art of hunting. Featuring a central section under a Renaissance-style frontispiece depicting a shooter, probably inspired by the mythological Hercules with his club, each drawer features engraved bone reliefs depicting dogs and prey: greyhounds, squirrels, foxes, deer, wolves, game... paying vibrant homage to the ancient tradition of country sports. - Dimensions: 81 x 43 x 28 cm - Good general condition. Missing a corner marquetry.
