The 30 pieces of silver are the sum that Judas Iscariot would have received for betraying Jesus by handing him over to the religious authorities. This episode is reported in the Gospel of Matthew (26:14-16). Judas, one of the twelve apostles, goes to the high priests and asks them what they will give him if he hands Jesus over to them. They agree on 30 pieces of silver. Subsequently, Judas leads the guards to the Garden of Gethsemane and points Jesus out to them with a kiss.
