Emile Gallé Art Nouveau Chest "animated Winter Landscape"
Superb solid beech chest molded with rich marquetry decorations, of characters carrying bundles of wood in a landscape of snowy undergrowth and foliage. It opens with a drop-down lid with scalloped moldings, the uprights are carved in high relief to form the base, note the quality of the cutting and the choice of species with in particular a maple burl to illustrate the snowy parts.
