EBOSHI type
Japan Edo period (1603-1868)
Iron, brass, lacquer, wood.
Eboshi-type Kabuto in painted iron; it features a helmet (hachi) with a monoxyle bomb; the curved line is emphasized by a crest. On the back, the monoxyle band (koshimaki) is riveted.
A short lateral fin (fukigaeshi) adorns each side.
The front of the helmet features a removable brass ornament called a maedate. It features a gilded wooden Oni, and the eyes are adorned with pearls.
The neck cover (shikiro), articulated with four slats, has an underlined curve.
The interior is lined with red fabric.
The kabuto is complemented by a facial protection called a mempo with a four-blade gorgerin. Wrinkles in the cheeks and cheekbones accentuate the resemblance to real physical features. It is adorned with a horsehair moustache. Red lacquered interior.
The kabuto is a traditional object in Japanese culture. An integral part of military armor, it was worn by high-ranking samurai.
Overall good condition. On base.
