"Diya Oil Lamp India"
Peacock shaped oil lamp 19th century Orissa. The lamp is made using the lost wax technique. Its surface is richly decorated and its patina is due to the numerous oil pours. A wick is dipped in ghee or vegetable oil. The body of the bird has a compartment for storing the oil. The small peacock shaped stopper prevents the wick from drying out. It is called by different names: diya, deya diva deepa deepak vilakhu.
