Object description :

"Inkwell In Saint Rémy Jaspered Marble Early 18th Century End Of The Reign Of Louis XIV Or Regency"
Superb and richly molded inkwell, carved from a monolithic block of Saint Rémy marble, known as "bleu de Saint Rémy", a jasper marble characterized by beautiful pink colors, veined of blue and white.

It has been extracted in Wallonia since the 15th century and was very popular in the 18th century.
It was then used for decorative objects, sculptures, fireplace mantels, or even luxury utilitarian objects, like this beautiful item.

Richly molded, the strong projections and the beautiful regularity of the grooves make it an object of particular elegance.

We propose a dating to the beginning of the 18th century, during the late reign of Louis XIV or the Regence (first quarter of the 18th century). There are rare chips, on parts that are not very visible, documented as best as possible on the photographs.
