JAPAN - Edo period (1603 - 1868). Complete samurai armor all in suite. KABUTO in wrought iron, glossy and smooth black lacquered. SHIKORO (neck cover) with five degrees in black lacquered iron, textured in relief and light blue silk braiding, the interior lacquered in gold. MABI SA SHI (the visor) in wrought iron, glossy and smooth black lacquered. FUKIGAESHI (the fins) in black lacquered iron, textured in relief, decorated with gilded copper mon of the MIYOSHI clan. MAEDATE in gilded cut copper. MEMPO (samurai half-mask) in wrought iron (oxidation), pronounced chin, mobile nose, pierced nostrils, black horsehair moustache, red lacquered interior, sweat hole under the chin. YODARE-KAKE (gorget) with five degrees in black lacquered iron, textured in relief and light blue silk braiding. DO (breastplate) with six lamellae in black lacquered iron with textured relief and blue silk braiding (very good condition). KOTE (arm guards) in chainmail and iron plates finely inlaid with scroll patterns. KUSAZURI (skirt) and HAIDATE (cuissards) with five rows in black lacquered leather with textured relief and blue and yellow silk braiding. SUNEATE (greaves) in shiny black lacquered iron plates, chainmail and fabric. Command fan in wood engraved with chilongs, the leaf in gold and red lacquered paper, braided silk cord. Fairly good general condition, slight losses to the lacquer, oxidation and wear to the braiding. Additional photos and details on request. Sold with its rare double GUSOKU BITSU (transport chests) in black lacquered wood decorated with a red mon, metal reinforcements and wrought iron carrying handles (slight oxidation). Note an unusual side drawer on one of the boxes. Sold with its display stand. Dimensions of the armor in seated position: 134 x 84 x 41 cm. Notes: In Japan, samurai are commemorated every year, many people and temples often keep such armor for generations.
