Magnificent lithograph by Léonor Fini, a key artist of surrealism, recognized for her dreamlike and mysterious universe. Entitled "Carrefour d'Hécate", this work bears witness to Fini's unique aesthetic, mixing sensuality and enigma. This artist's proof is particularly rare, signed by the hand of Leonor Fini and annotated HC (Hors Commerce), reserved for the artist's close friends or for exhibition purposes, which gives it an exclusive character. The subtle play of veils and the presence of female figures recall themes dear to Fini: ambiguity, mystery and feminine power. The composition invites us on a journey into a universe that is both poetic and disturbing, characteristic of the work of this artist, who left her mark on 20th century art.

"Carrefour d'Hécate" refers to the goddess Hecate, a figure from Greek mythology associated with magic, the moon, nocturnal mysteries and crossroads. In ancient times, Hecate was venerated as the goddess of crossroads and paths, symbolizing choices, transitions and decisions to be made. Crossroads were sacred to her, as they represented places of passage between the world of the living and that of the spirits. Offerings were often placed there to ask for her protection. Using this reference, Léonor Fini probably explores themes related to mystical femininity, ambiguity and existential choices, in line with her dreamlike and symbolic universe. This reinforces the enigmatic and supernatural aura of the work.

LEONOR FINI (1908 – 1996) Léonor Fini was born in Buenos Aires in 1908 to an Argentinian father and an Italian mother. At a very young age, she moved to Trieste with her mother, where she grew up in an environment that was both cosmopolitan and bohemian, surrounded by intellectuals and artists. Due to vision problems, she developed a particular visual acuity, influencing her singular artistic style. A surrealist and dreamlike universe Self-taught, Léonor Fini began painting in her adolescence. Fascinated by mystery, dreams and femininity, she creates a dreamlike universe populated by enigmatic figures, often feminine and imbued with a mysterious sensuality. Her works combine surrealism, symbolism and mythological influences. Paris and the surrealist circle In the 1930s, Léonor Fini moved to Paris, where she frequented the surrealist circle without ever officially joining the movement. She rubbed shoulders with Salvador Dalí, Max Ernst, Man Ray and André Breton, while asserting her artistic independence. Her work explores the themes of the sacred feminine, the mask, the double and metamorphosis. A multifaceted artist In addition to painting, Léonor Fini distinguished herself as an illustrator, designer of theatre and opera costumes, and as a writer. She collaborated with authors such as Jean Genet and Marguerite Yourcenar, illustrating literary works with her inimitable style. Celebrating the feminine and erotic Leonor Fini celebrates feminine power through mystical and sensual figures, often surrounded by ethereal veils. Her work defies gender conventions and stereotypes, offering a free and independent vision of femininity. A timeless artistic legacy Leonor Fini passed away in Paris in 1996 and leaves a fascinating artistic legacy. Her works are held in prestigious private collections and museums around the world. Enigmatic and captivating, her creations continue to inspire artists and collectors.
