JAPAN - Edo period (1603 - 1868). Complete samurai armor all in suite. KABUTO in wrought iron with six black lacquered wrought iron plates. THEHEN NO ANA (opening at the top) in gilded copper with three degrees. SHIKORO (neck cover) with four degrees in black lacquered iron and blue and white silk braiding. MABI SA SHI (the visor) in openwork black lacquered wrought iron. FUKIGAESHI (the fins) in black lacquered iron. MAEDATE in gilded wood representing a bird with outstretched wings (a second metal maetate representing a red lacquered dragon is also available for this kabuto). MEMPO (samurai half-mask) in shiny black lacquered wrought iron, pronounced chin, mobile nose, pierced nostrils, red lacquered interior, sweat hole under the chin. YODARE-KAKE (gorget) in fabric, leather and chainmail. The clan mon is visible here, in gold, under the chainmail. DO (breastplate) with two slats simulating eight in black lacquered iron, blue silk braiding and deer leather stamped with a stylized plant motif. SODE (pauldrons) with seven degrees in black lacquered metal and blue silk braiding. KOTE (arm guards) in chainmail, shiny black lacquered iron plates and pink fabric. KUSAZURI (skirt) and HAIDATE (cuissards) with five rows in black lacquered leather and blue, white and pink silk braiding. SUNEATE (greaves) in shiny black lacquered iron plates, chainmail and fabric. SAIHAI in lacquered wood, copper, strips of paper and braided silk cord. Fairly good general condition, slight losses to the lacquer, oxidation and wear to the braiding. Additional photos and details on request. Sold with its rare double brown GUSOKU BITSU (transport chests) decorated with the clan's mon, metal reinforcements (light oxidation) and with its presentation stand. Dimensions of the armor in sitting position: 129 x 50 x 54 cm. Notes: In Japan, samurai are commemorated every year, many people and temples often keep such armor for generations.
