"Rare Indian Bonnes Herbes Caraco From The Oberkampf Factory - Marseille Circa 1795-1800"
Circa 1795-1800 France - Marseille Bonnes Herbes Indian fabric caraco from the Oberkampf factory in Jouy-en-Josas and dating from the end of the 18th century. Woodblock print with a chimney sweep background of a sowing of flowers called Bonnes Herbes. Very high-waisted cut and long stovepipe sleeves ending in mittens. Bustier with an oval neckline tightened by ties on the chest. Back with a tilted line and V-shaped cut highlighted with a tiny pet-en-l'air (caracaca in Provençal). Fully lined in ecru cotton. Note the trace of a blue silk stuffing tie on the back, evidence of an old trinket that has disappeared. A few stains on the lining, otherwise the Indian fabric has retained its original colors and finish. Exceptional condition of conservation. Dimensions: equivalent to size 35 France. Back height 23 cm, shoulders 27 cm, chest 74 cm, sleeves 66 cm. This is a consignment sale from a collector.
