"Reduction Compass - Dollond - C.1760"
Large reduction compass made of brass and steel signed "Dollond London" and preserved in its ray or shark skin case. The instrument is datable to around 1760-1770. It is of an unusually large size measuring 24.5cm in length and its shaped case 26.5cm in length. The compass is engraved with three scales: "Planes", "Circles" and "Lines". It is in perfect working order. Inside one end of the case, a small accident on the edge of the case but nothing serious or missing. Rare of this size by this English manufacturer.
