Guido Gonzato, 1896-1955. Son of Carlo. In 1924, he married Orlandina (Dida) Romanzini. G. attended the Cignaroli Academy of Fine Arts in Verona and graduated in 1921. Having emigrated to Ticino with his family in 1913, he lived in Chiasso until 1918 and, from 1924, in the Mendrisiotto region. From 1925 to 1929, he suffered from a severe eye disease.

Guido participated in his first group exhibitions in Venice (Biennale, 1924), Oslo (Blomquist Gallery, 1929), and Rome (Quadriennale, 1931). His first solo exhibitions took place in 1933 in Milan (Galleria del Milione) and Basel (Thommen Gallery). From 1950 to 1955, he also had a studio in Zurich.

He created frescoes and mosaics in various religious buildings in Ticino, notably in the parish church of Rancate (Via Crucis, 1936) and the Sacred Heart Church in Bellinzona (Via Crucis, 1939). A member of the Mendrisiotto group, within the artistic and cultural context of the time, G. served as a bridge between Italy and Ticino. This unique artist was influenced by Post-Impressionism, Expressionism, and the Italian Novecento movement.
