Josef Matěj Navrátil (February 17, 1798, Slaný – April 21, 1865, Prague) was a Czech painter of landscapes, frescoes, decorations, still lifes and figurative compositions.
He performed in 1824 in the Royal Academy of Sciences, in 1836 for Krasoumné jednoty. His fame grew and in 1850 he became president of the Union of Fine Artists. He began to concentrate more on painting hanging pictures. However, in 1861 he had to give up his active career as a painter as he became partially paralyzed following a stroke. The loss of his son and health problems marked Navrátil's life,
