Beautiful male portrait painted in oil on a wooden panel, by the hand or in the style of Christian Wilhelm Ernst DIETRICH, painter of the German school (Weimar, 1712 - Dresden, 1774), who made a specialty of these small portraits of character, with a predilection for the figure of the elderly and bearded man, who summons in turn the iconographic topos of the prophet, the rabbi, the wise man, or even the philosopher.
This panel is not attributed; having now had a few works by the artist in my hands, its finesse of execution would make us say that it is indeed by Dietricy, but this feeling is not worth expertise and we leave it to future buyers to determine it.
The panel has an inked monogram on the back. Modern frame in stuccoed and gilded wood, in good general condition, minus a chip in the lower right part.
