"Pair Of English Silver Plated Vegetable Dishes, Old Sheffield, 19th Century "
Pair of English silver plated vegetable dishes, Old Sheffield, 19th century An elegant pair of English silver plated vegetable dishes, made by Old Sheffield, dating from the 19th century. These vegetable dishes feature an ingenious bain-marie system, allowing vegetables or condiments to be kept at the right temperature. Each vegetable dish has an opening with a screw cap, allowing hot water to be introduced inside the double wall. Once filled, this system effectively retains heat, even when the lid is removed, a typically English invention combining practicality and refinement. The design is in perfect harmony with the English silverware of the period, with a typical gadrooned edge and finely chiseled feet in a decoration of stylized palmettes and scrolls. The stylized heart-shaped handles, decorated with a vegetal motif, add an elegant and romantic touch to the whole. Both vegetable dishes are in excellent condition, with the silvering perfectly preserved, which is rare for pieces of this age.
