Short iron cannon with two pieces on the sides for better attachment to the support and a series of rings along its outer surface. Due to its size and these decorative elements, it is reminiscent of ancient artillery such as bombards. This type of piece was manufactured in the 19th and 20th centuries, inspired by ancient examples, mainly for decorative purposes and generally intended for interiors decorated in the neo-medieval style, very fashionable in Spain in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Medieval cannons, huge firearms that could fire a heavy projectile over a long distance, are the archetype of modern artillery. It is possible that the first cannon used in Europe appeared in Muslim and Christian Spain. The bombard, currently considered the oldest known portable firearm in the West, is the precursor to the cannon. -
