A tributary of the Saône, the Ruisseau des Planches passes byTassin-la-Demi-Lune, where the artist lived. A student of Marius Remillieux, Benoît specialised in flowers, but it was only a little later that he found his true vocation in landscapes. His style is quite different from the proto-impressionist Ravier or the rather conventional Saint-Cyr Girier, Benoît loved the countryside around Lyon and in the Dombes, and his trees are very special. Exhibited at the Salon des artistes lyonnais in 1894, Le Ruisseau des Planches was bought by the Lyon collector Monsieur Zeller.
