"Large Painted Sheet Metal Serving Tray With Allegorical Decor, Early 19th Century"
Elegant and large tray in red and gold lacquered painted sheet metal, decorated in its center with Ceres (or an allegory of Abundance) on a chariot pulled by a lion, accompanied by a putto also mounted on a large feline and holding an ear of wheat to explain the agricultural benefits of the Divinity. The periphery is surrounded by a frieze of leafy scrolls, punctuated by four heads of Medusa or
gorgoneion and by five-pointed stars. Numerous accidents and losses as attested by the photos. An object nevertheless of great decorative aura: pleasant subject, fresh colors.
