"Terracotta Bust Of A Young Man By A. Cagna. Dated 1930"
Original sculpture, made of terracotta, representing a young man in a very elegantly dressed bust. This budding dandy wears as he should in 1930, a suit and waistcoat, a tie tied in the Windsor style, we will note the American collar (buttoned) of the latest fashion. Information is rare on A. Cagna (Auguste probably), a sculptor clearly of solid profession because he is part of this cohort of artists caught up in the 20s and 30s, by the creation of monuments to soldiers who died during the Great War, and by the creation of tombs for grieving families. We will note the expressive quality of his work, and the care taken to bring his youthful model to life. It is placed on a yellow marble base which shows it off well. In very good condition, the very light clay takes the light well.
