Iranian carpet from the Fars region (southwest Iran), wool, cotton warp and weft, circa 1960. Very good condition.

A central medallion, surrounded by four bouquets of flowers and zoomorphic birds, stands out from a deep red kafzadé (plain field) background. A small border delimits the field of this small authentic carpet. These small square carpets were most often the fronts of gorjins (packsaddle bags).

The Gashghai confederation includes different tribes. Some examples: the Kashkulis Bozorgs (the large ones), the Kashkulis Kucheks (the small ones), the Shishbolukis (six districts), the Amalehs or Yalamehs (workers, servants of the Khan).
