"Important Bronze Saint Georges By Barbedienne Italian Renaissance Style Period 19th Century"
Important bronze with medal patina representing Saint George by Ferdinand Barbedienne and Achille Collas. In 1845, Barbedienne and Collas created their company together for the manufacture and reduction of bronzes, Achille Collas obtaining a patent in 1836 for the invention of a mechanical reduction process. The subject here is inspired by the sculpture by Donatello made for the Orsanmichele church in Florence, the original being today preserved in the National Museum of Bargello in Florence. Signed on the rear terrace F. Barbedienne and bears the reduction stamp of Collas
