born October 10, 1741 in Lille, died December 1, 1826 in the same city, is a French painter. Military painter under the royalty, but also painter of the Revolution, he often collaborates with his father, Louis-Nicolas van Blarenberghe. He paints in particular miniatures and panoramas. The majority of his works are in gouache, but he also uses black stone, watercolor, or oil paint. Specialist in battle scenes, as a military painter, he paints battle situations for the army or military ports such as Brest for the navy, before the French Revolution. During the French Revolution he painted the storming of the Bastille, as well as the Bastille Ball which took place there the following year. He also painted castles, such as that of Chanteloup, and the pagoda in his garden. Henri-Joseph Van Blarenberghe, drawing master of the young princes at Versailles, was also the first curator of the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille.
