It is in a rare state of conservation for a set of this period with very fresh colors and cloth. Slight wear and a few tiny moth holes.
It consists of:
1/ A Bolero model 1879 in dark blue wool with red piping and flat braid. Red tombô (identifying the 1st Zouave regiment). It is dated of the second quarter of 1898 and bears the stamp of the manufacturer Frédéric Altairac in Algiers. Lining in cotton canvas.
2/ A matching vest model 1879 in dark blue wool with red piping. Lining in cotton canvas.
3/ A pair of baggy pants called "sarouel" model 1879 in red wood and dark blue piping, dated March 1896 and bearing the manufacter stamp Frédéric Altairac in Algiers. Lining in cotton canvas.
4/ A chechia model 1879 in red wool with its blue tassel (color has somewhat faded). Interior without leather lining identifying a manufacture before 1903.
5/ A very rare belt in blue cotton canvas of 4 meters long and 40 cm wide. It has never been shortened like most available. It bears a reception stamp dated 1895.
The first regiment of Zouave was based in Algiers.
